Minister: Private Jets Used for Money Laundering, Drug Trafficking

opera.com 6 days ago

The minister of aviation of Nigeria Mr Festus Keyamo has revealed that some private aircraft in Nigeria are being used for money laundering, drug trafficking and other illicit activities, prompting increased surveillance and regulatory measures to curb such abuses. Without specifying the airlines involved, he emphasized that these activities have cost the sector millions of dollars and raised serious security concerns. Keyamo emphasized the need for tighter controls and cooperation between aviation authorities and law enforcement agencies to prevent the aviation sector from being exploited by criminals

Keyamo explained that private jets, due to their exclusivity and less rigorous oversight compared to commercial flights, have become attractive to those engaging in money laundering and drug trafficking. He noted that these jets are often used to move large sums of money and narcotics across borders with minimal detection, posing a significant threat to national security and the integrity of the aviation sector.
