Abuja Rail Mass Transit Records 5,000 Passengers Daily – Wike

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stated that the Abuja Rail Mass Transit (ARMT) serves 4,000 to 5,000 passengers daily. He made this announcement during the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja. Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the free ride initiative approved by President Tinubu, highlighting its impact as a major relief ahead of the anticipated minimum wage discussions. Akpabio also commended Wike for his achievements despite criticisms.

LPPC shortlists 98 for SANs

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has shortlisted 87 lawyers and 11 legal academics for appointment as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs).

A statement by the Secretary, Hajo Bello, invited the public to comment on the integrity, reputation and competence of the applicants.

Complaints must be accompanied by an affidavit deposed to before a superior court of record or a notary public.

“Publication of the names of the shortlisted applicants is not an indication of their success in the process,” the statement said.

A notable name on the list is former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Vice President, Monday Onyekachi Ubani, who also served as chairman of the Ikeja Branch.

Sultanate lacks powers to appoint, depose traditional rulers – Sokoto govt

Sokoto state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Hon. Nasiru Mohammed Binji has said that no traditional institution has the constitutional power to appoint or Deposed any traditional ruler.

Binji made the remarks on Tuesday at a public hearing on a bill to amend the Sokoto state local Government law of 2009 held at the Mini Chamber of the state House of Assembly.

He said according to the constitution of the federal republic, the power to appoint or dethrone any traditional ruler be it District or Village head lies on the powers of the executive directly or indirectly.

IBEDC hikes Band A electricity tariffs by N2.70

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc has announced an upward review of the electricity tariff for Band A customers.

The Acting Managing Director, IBEDC, Francis Agoha, stated that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved the tariff increase from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kWh for users in the category.

According to a public notice signed by Agoha on Wednesday, the tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unchanged.

The statement read, “Effective immediately, the tariff will be adjusted from N206.80/kWh to N209.50/kWh. This review has been duly approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as captured in the multi-year tariff supplementary order.
