Need to Caution Igbo Representatives on Sponsoring Multiple Bills for the Creation of a Sixth State

opera.com 2 days ago

Igbo leaders should urge those representing South Easterners in the National House to be true to themselves, avoid self-centeredness, and work together to bring about the foundation of a state in the south east. We now have recommendations for 1. Orlu State, 2. Anioma State, and 3. Etiti State. Let ideas be made with the goal of filling a gap and benefiting citizens while ensuring the dividend of democracy, rather than for partisan reasons.

Recall that on Tuesday, the bill for the creation of Etiti state passed first reading, as did the bill for the creation of Anioma state. While the bill for the founding of Orlu state has also passed its first reading.

This bill is sponsored by Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, representing Isikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency, and four others representing the impacted villages in the house of representatives on Tuesday.

Hon. Princess Miriam Odinaka Onuoha represents Okigwe and Onuimo federal constituencies; Hon. Kama Nkemkama represents Ivo/Ohazara federal constituencies; Hon. Princess Chinwe Nnabuife represents Orumba South and North federal constituencies; and Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu represents Oji River/Agwai/Aniri federal constituencies.

The proposed state will be formed from the current Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.

He stated that the new state would include 11 local government areas picked from the five states, with its headquarters in Lokpanta.

The bill proposes to amend three sections of the 1999 constitution, removing the word 36 and replacing it with the word 37 to accommodate the new state, and inserting the word Etiti right after Enugu in the list of states contained in the Constitution.

It also seeks to change the listing of local governments by state and move 11 local government areas from their present states to the new state.

Isuikwuato and Umu-Nneochi (Abia), Orumba North and South (Anambra), Ivo and Ohaozara (Ebonyi), Aninri, Agwu, and Oji River (Enugu), and Okigwe and Onuimo (Imo) are among the local governments that may be affected.

The bill sponsored by Ugochinyere.
