The resignation of two key members from Governor Siminalayi Fubara's cabinet has sparked discussions regarding the state's governance. Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN) and Isaac Kamalu, both known allies of former governor Nyesom Wike, tendered their resignations shortly after a cabinet reshuffle orchestrated by Governor Fubara.

According to a report by The Punch, a prominent figure within the Rivers State Elders Council, Asukewe Iko-Awaju, addressed the situation, emphasizing that the departure of Adangor and Kamalu should not serve as an excuse for any perceived shortcomings within the current administration. Iko-Awaju stressed the importance of maintaining governmental efficacy despite personnel changes, stating, "Resigning from the cabinet is not an excuse for failure."

Furthermore, Iko-Awaju highlighted the imperative for Governor Fubara to swiftly address any voids created by the resignations and ensure the continued progress of the state. He emphasized, "The governor should look for people that will help do the work. No one will take their resignation as an excuse for the governor not to perform."

The resignations of Adangor and Kamalu, who are aligned with ex-governor Wike, occurred amidst a backdrop of political discord between Wike and Fubara. This rift has cast a shadow over the recent reshuffling of the cabinet, with both departing commissioners expressing dissatisfaction with their new assignments.

Adangor, formerly the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, voiced concerns over what he perceived as 'willful interference' by Governor Fubara in his duties. Similarly, Kamalu, who held the position of Commissioner for Finance, criticized Fubara's claims regarding the state's monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and cited an unwillingness to work in an environment fraught with acrimony.

Iko-Awaju characterized the resignations as a regrettable distraction for Governor Fubara, who, he believes, should be focused on his duties at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He urged against any actions that might divert the governor's attention from his responsibilities, cautioning, "He has moved from the state to the national level. Who knows what God has for him? However, drawing him back will make him lose focus."

Iko-Awaju maintained that the governor possesses the authority to make decisions he deems appropriate for the welfare of the Rivers people.
