On 8th July, 2024 Professor Auwalu Yadudu, the former Legal Adviser to the former Nigerian Military Head of State, Late General Sani Abacha while reacting to the ongoing detention of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the custody of the Department of Security Services (DSS), revealed that he did not think the approach made by the South East Governors Forum in securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu was the best route because Kanu had obtained bail in the past, during the administration of the former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, and he had jumped that bail.

According to Daily Trust, Professor Auwalu Yadudu, the former Legal Adviser to the former Nigerian Military Head of State, Late General Sani Abacha said "The attorney general can resume or bring further fresh actions against them if they do not make good on the undertaking they make. The bail application really is not a reconciliatory route on both sides. First of all, Kanu has obtained bail in the past, during the previous regime, and he has jumped that bail, so I don’t think it is the best route for both of them. If you want to find a reconciliatory way to end matters, I think engaging in political discussions, getting commitments from all sides, and concretizing that through the appearance to discontinue would be the best option, but if they grant him bail, I think the young man will still jump it, and then we will go back to square one."

Professor Auwalu Yadudu added that he hoped that the Governors from the South Eastern parts of the country, and those who were for the release of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would mean business, and they would also be able to deliver on their own side, because in the past, that was what happened after they collaborated to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, and now they were back to square one because he jumped bail.
