Residents of Kathwana market in Tharaka Nithi County are in shock after the body of a 23-year-old man was found in a hotel kitchen in the area.
The body, identified as that of Moris Muthomi, was found by the employees when they reported to work in the morning. The deceased had visible burns and bruises, raising concerns about the circumstances leading to his death.
Confirming the incident, area police boss said that investigations into the suspected murder have started in a bid to arrest the suspects.
Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased was recently released from remand on theft charges. The motive of the murder is yet to be established but authorities have initiated a probe to uncover the details surrounding this incident.
Residents urged police to intensify patrol in the area and the county government to consider adding street lights in the market.
The body was moved to the local mortuary awaiting postmortem.
