The Southern Governors' Forum has thrown its weight behind the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, hailing it as a game-changer for the region's economy.

In an interview with Arise TV, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who recently emerged as the Forum's chairman, emphasized the project's potential to transform the economy of the entire southern region.

According to Governor Abiodun, the project has the potential to significantly reduce travel time. He used Ondo state as an example, stating that currently, a trip from Lagos to a specific part of Ondo state takes around 5 hours. However, once the road is completed, he claimed that that same journey will take only about 30 minutes, representing a significant reduction in travel time.

He also highlighted the transformative impact this will have on the people of the region, stating that the construction process alone will create hundreds of thousands of jobs for Nigerians.

He said: "We were unanimous in appreciating the initiative, because we can see how much of an impact it will make to the economy of the entire southern region and the part of Ondo state where this road will terminate. Ideally, if you are traveling from Lagos to that part of state today, it will take you about 5 hours. When that road is completed, it will take you about 30 minutes. That is the transformation in terms of impact that this road will have on our people. The construction itself, the share size of it will provide hundreds of thousands of jobs."
