According to the report from the Sun, a delegate to the 2014 National Conference and former President of an Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Chief Goddy Uwazurike stated that discussing regionalization is futile, as only a few states have embraced it while others, such as Enugu and Ebonyi in the Southeast, have opposed it.

He mentioned that residents of Borno do not understand the concept and are content with their current situation.

In response to the diverse opinions on regionalization, he explained that their proposal for 18 new states considered the legitimate concerns of various minority groups, emphasizing the importance of addressing the needs and perspectives of different communities.

He said, "For instance, we know that talking about regionalization is a waste of time. Only very few states accepted it, others rejected it. If you come to the Southeast, Enugu and Ebonyi rejected regionalization. People from Borno don’t even understand what you are talking about, they tell you, oh! we are happy where we are. And one of the things we did in proposing the 18 new states was to look into the genuine complaints of the various minorities."
