According to Sahara Reporters, trigger-happy policeman from the Nsukka Urban Police Division, whose identity is yet to be revealed, has reportedly shot and killed a young man, identified simply as Amuche.
The incident happened on Echara Road in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday night.
Eyewitnesses said a group of police officers dressed in mufti had gone out to relax when the incident occurred.
According to the witnesses, trouble started when one of the officers began dancing with a lady, suspected to be a sex worker, in front of a bar.
However, the lady allegedly accused the policeman of groping her bre@sts while they danced. The allegation led to an altercation that eventually resulted in the law officer shooting Amuche.
Sources alleged that the police are hiding the officer’s identity.
Narrating how the tragic incident happened, one of the eyewitnesses said the lady reported the policeman’s action to the chalet’s manager who engaged the policeman in a heated argument.
The eyewitness continued, saying:
"In the process, one of them slapped the other person. At that point, the manager went inside the chalet and mobilized some boys who were working there.
"The Manager then slapped the policeman when he returned with the boys. It was at that point that the other policemen who were in company of the one dancing with the alleged prostitute, joined the fracas to rescue their embattled colleague.
"That was when one of them pulled an AK-47 rifle from their car and shot to disperse the crowd that gathered following the chaotic situation. A stray bullet then hit Amuche, who was playing snookers at the charlet when the incident started.
According to the eyewitness narration, the attempt to rush out of the venue when the bullet hit him.
Meanwhile, the policemen later whisked away the chalet’s manager on the on allegation assaulting their colleague.
Following the incident, irate youths took the corpse of the slain Amuche to the Nsukka Police Division office in protest.
