Debo Adeniran, the Chairman of the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL), stated that he was not surprised by the arrest of former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika.

Speaking in an interview on AIT, Adeniran alleged that Sirika had been invited for questioning since around January or February but did not respond.

He mentioned that several allegations had been leveled against Sirika, including the awarding of contracts to his younger brother.

Adeniran noted a conflict of interest in how these contracts were awarded, as the brother, who is the deputy director in the ministry of water resources, had a company that allegedly received money from the ministry without executing the contracts.

Adeniran further explained that once the minister received money, it would be transferred to his brother's company.

Despite the brother's position as deputy director, Adeniran claimed that he was not supposed to be taking contracts.

He criticized the situation as an instance of money being siphoned from the ministry of aviation for jobs that the brother was allegedly not qualified to perform.

He said: “There is nothing surprising about his arrest to the extent that he has been invited since maybe January or February. And he didn’t respond. And several allegations have been levelled against him.

Apart from the Nigeria Air thing, he had awarded contracts to his younger brother and those contract were not even executed despite the conflict of interest that was manifest in the way the contract was awarded.

Of course the brother was transferring money once the minister got the money to the brother’s company.

The brother is actually the deputy director in the ministry of water resources. He is not supposed to even take contract but he has a company with which he siphons money from ministry of aviation for jobs that he is not trained to do."
