Octogenarian Man Injured in Kwara Fire

An 86-year-old man was injured in a fire that occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State. The fire started when the man left his cooking unattended to see a visitor off, unaware that his apartment was already ablaze. Upon returning, he attempted to salvage his belongings and sustained burns to his head. The Kwara State Fire Service responded swiftly, and the man was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Lagos-Calabar highway: FG begins demolition, shuts Lagos beach

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has ordered the closure of Landmark Beach in Lagos, starting from Sunday, to facilitate the demolition of shanties that obstruct the construction of a coastal road within the Federal Government's Right of Way. Umahi emphasized that only informal structures would be affected, not major infrastructure. Compensation for affected individuals is scheduled to commence from Wednesday or Thursday of the following week. Umahi reaffirmed the government's commitment to construct the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, estimating it to take eight years and cost N15 trillion, with each kilometer priced at N4 billion. The project aims to connect Lagos to Cross River, passing through several states along Nigeria's southern coast.

Police arrest suspect using pepper to steal bikes from riders

The Ekiti State Police arrested Bernard Shadrack for attempting to snatch a motorcycle from a commercial rider in Oye Ekiti. The arrest, made by the Oye Divisional Police Headquarters with assistance from residents, occurred on April 25, 2024. Investigations revealed that Shadrack and an accomplice targeted motorcycle riders in Oye-Ekiti, using pepper and a hammer to attempt a theft. The victim, aided by bystanders, subdued Shadrack, leading to his arrest. Shadrack confessed to the crime and disclosed involvement in motorcycle theft since November 2023, alongside his fleeing accomplice, based in Benin, Edo State. Efforts are underway to apprehend the other suspect.
