Imo State University lecturers stage protest over lingering welfare issues
Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU at the Imo State University staged a protest over the non payment of their accumulated promotion arrears, disparity in salaries and other issues bordering on their welfare.
The protesters with placards that bore various inscriptions, staged a peaceful march around the University premises to drive home their demands.
ASUU says the inclusion of the State owned University in the Treasury Single Account system is slowing down development at the institution.
According to the protesters, the march is to express their displeasure with the Imo State government over non compliance with their demands, despite efforts to resolve the issues.amicably
The branch chairman of ASUU in the University told newsmen shortly after the protest march that lack of funding, delaysin promotions, non payment of earned academic allowances, among other welfare issues are affecting the level of personnel productivity in the institution
The lecturers want the state government to take urgent steps towards addressing the challenges effecting the service delivery of the school.
