BAR 4:2 VAL: 3 Truths That Should Be Said About Barcelona's Performance In This Match

opera.com 2024/5/20

Barcelona were active in the Spanish La Liga today hosting Valencia at the Estadio Olímpic Lluís Companys in what turned out to be an entertaining game of football. The Catalans bounced back to winning ways in the competition as they came from behind to comfortably defeat a 10-man Valencia side 4-2 thanks to Robert Lewandowski's hat-trick and a goal from Fermín López.

In this article, I will be sharing three truths that should be said about Barcelona's performance in this match against Valencia.

1, Ronald Araujo's Defensive Blunders Make Him Look Overrated.

Once again, Ronald Araujo made a costly defensive blunder in this match for Barcelona against Valencia. The Uruguayan International committed a reckless foul inside the 18-yard box which resulted in a penalty for Valencia. Despite his Immense quality, Ronald Araujo seems to be a player who can't get away from making clumsy mistakes. A similar thing occurred against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League when he committed a reckless foul and it got him sent off from the match which ended up contributing to why Barcelona lost that very encounter. These constant mistakes of his are making him look like an overrated player for Barcelona.

2, Fermín López Is More Reliable Than Frenkie De Jong.

With the performance I have seen from Fermín López this season, I can boldly say he way more reliable than Frenkie De Jong. Unlike Frenkie De Jong, the Spanish International barely gets injured and also scores important goals for Barcelona. His brilliant header in this match made it his eighth goal for Barcelona this season despite not being a regular starter. I believe Barcelona should sell Frenkie De Jong and consider giving Fermín López more playing time to develop his abilities.

3, Marc Ter Stegen's Decline Is Worrisome.

When mentioning Barcelona's worst players in this match Marc Ter Stegen definitely deserves to be on that list. The German International committed a costly defensive blunder in the game by gifting Valencia their first goal against Barcelona. He has kept just one clean sheet in his last five appearances for Barcelona while conceding 11 goals in those matches. Marc Ter Stegen's decline is becoming quite worrisome and it could trigger shouts for a new goalkeeper in the team.
