Wike flags off 25km abandoned road in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on Thursday flagged off the 25km Kweita – Yebu road in Kwali Area Council of the nation’s capital. 

Wike assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come to restore their lost hope by bringing back confidence in the government. 

He also assured the people of Kwali that the road construction would not be abandoned like past administrations did.

Wike assured that already 50 percent of the contract sum has been captured in the FCT 2024 budget. 

He also changed the delivery time of the contract from 18 to 12 months and asked the contractor if he made more money available, if he can deliver.

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday inaugurated a 31-member Presidential Economic Coordination Council comprising himself, the Vice President, the Senate President, and the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, among others.

Thursday’s inauguration comes three months after the President established the committee on March 27, 2024.

Tinubu also presented the outcomes of his review of the accelerated stabilisation and advancement plan, which seeks to inject N2tn into the economy in the next six months.

Zamfara: NSCDC reiterates adequate security network to all religious bodies

The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), has reiterated its commitment to providing adequate security to all religious bodies and legal organizations in the state.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday, in Gusau by the spokesman of the State NSCDC, Ikor Oche, and made available to newsmen.

According to the statement, the State Commandant, Sani Mustapha, said this when he hosted the leadership of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Zamfara Province at the State Command Headquarters in Gusau, on Tuesday.

The statement added, that the NSCDC is primarily responsible for the oversight function of monitoring activities of religious bodies, as stated in Section 3 of the enabling Act of the Corps 2003.

North contributes highest to Nigeria’s 17m housing deficit – HoR Speaker

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has said that Northern Nigeria contributes the highest percentage of the 17 million housing units deficit in the country.

He, therefore, called for deliberate policies by governments at all levels to promote affordable housing initiatives, combat homelessness through social welfare programs, protect vulnerable populations from forced evictions, and ensure equal access to housing opportunities for all citizens.

The House of Representatives Speaker stated this at the closing of the maiden Kaduna International Housing Exhibition, adding that, the provision of housing for the citizens is a fundamental right.
