Onuesoke, a former PDP gubernatorial candidate, said in a statement published yesterday in Warri that residents, even some APC supporters, can no longer afford to eat well, much alone three square meals each day.

According to him, "A basket of Garri is N4,000; a basket of beans is N8,300; and a basket of rice is now N12,000." Politicians who steal money now eat garri. The bulk of folks cannot afford this given their modest earnings/salaries."

He said that some APC supporters and residents are merely pretending that everything is OK and are only waiting to vote out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope motto, which he believes has been crushed. The PDP chairman insisted that the APC will die extinct soon due to hunger.

He said, "Whether you like it or not, the APC will be extinct before 2027 because Nigeria's hunger is severe. Many folks who are unable to cope are now committing suicide. They no longer believe in the president's Renewed Hope because they think their expectations have been crushed. Some of them, especially APC members, are just waiting to vote President Tinubu and his Renewed Hope out of power."

Onuesoke said that the current incidence of suicide among residents is worrying, blaming it on hardship and hunger, as well as the country's hyper-austerity. He recounted how an unnamed lady committed suicide last weekend by jumping from the Ekpan bridge, citing hardship and despair.

Onuesoke reiterated that the APC would not survive the political tsunami that is expected in 2027, claiming that even if President Tinubu raises the minimum salary for public officials, it would not rescue the APC or his administration.

Due to hardship and dissatisfaction, the individual committed suicide last weekend by leaping from the Ekpan bridge.

"Who will care for the market women? Who will raise their wages? The private sector cannot provide the wages that the NLC and TUC are asking for workers. "The situation is even worse for the APC," he said.

The PDP leader also said that the price of gasoline should be cut to facilitate the mobility of persons and products, as well as the control and regulation of market pricing of goods/commodities to reclaim the people's trust.
