FCT: ‘I don’t need anybody’s permission for project’ – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said beyond President Bola Tinubu, he does not need the approval of anyone before embarking on any project.

Wike spoke yesterday, during the flag-off of Kwaita-Yebu Road in Kwali Area Council expected to cost N7 billion.

This is coming amid his rift with the FCT Senator, Ireti Kingibe over her recent comment.

Kingibe had accused Wike of embarking on infrastructural projects that have no impact on the lives of FCT residents.

BREAKING: UK’s Labour party wins general election

The United Kingdom’s Labour Party, swept to power early on Friday, after winning the country’s general election, crossing the 326-seat threshold for a working majority in the House of Commons.

“A mandate like this comes with a great responsibility,” Labour leader Keir Starmer told supporters at a triumphant dawn rally in London, moments after the results that sealed its landslide win were announced.

BBC reports that as the final figures come in, Labour is expected to win 410 seats, with the Conservatives on 144.

Also, Rishi Sunak has accepted defeat, and said he called Starmer to congratulate him.

ASUU threatens strike over unmet demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Lagos, said the union may consider going on strike if the government does not respond to its demands after all the nationwide protests.

For some weeks now, ASUU chapters have been engaging in nationwide protests.

They also wrote open letters to the Federal Government to request that the agreements the government had with the union be implemented.

Members of ASUU-UNILAG and students on Thursday, protested the nine unresolved demands of the union by the Federal Government.

Don’t donate your pension to churches, mosques – Sanwo-Olu to civil servants

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, has cautioned retirees against donating their pension to churches and mosques in the name of thanksgiving or tithe.

Sanwo-Olu said, retirees should use their pension to solve their family problems.

He gave the caution, during the 105 batch of retirement bond certificate presentation ceremony to retirees in the state yesterday.

The governor said the payment of the pension, was a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Lagos State government to its retirees.
