Director-General of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, in this chat, spoke on the economy, the minimum wage and challenges businesses are currently facing, among others, saying it is in the enlightened interest of employers to protect jobs.

During the just-concluded International Labour Conference, ILC of the ILO, there were conversations on the platform and care economy as well as fundamental principles on workers’ rights. Part of the wins for us at the ILO was to deepen conversations on local content, where we will come up with policy working groups that will drive conversations on the global stage. For instance, at the ILO, there are policy working groups on apprenticeship, skills development, green economy and just transition.

Fake drugs: Police pledge to partner NAFDAC

The Inspector–General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has assured that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will be unrelenting in the fight against fake drugs and food.

Egbetokun said the force will play its role effectively in facilitating the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)’s activities and ensuring compliance with regulations.

He gave the assurance when the Director General (DG), of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye visited Force Headquarters in Abuja as part of the ongoing collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and NAFDAC in the shared commitment to ensuring public safety and health.

High cost of drugs to persist as local production flops

LAGOS — The high cost of drugs in the country would persist, as local production of the products is near total collapse due to inconsistencies in government policies.

Though the Nigerian pharmaceutical market boasts over 200 manufacturing and packaging companies made up of three dominant segments of readily available over-the-counter drugs (43.1 per cent), affordable generics (38.9 per cent), and expensive branded patented drugs (12 per cent), the drug market in the country has been dominated completely by imported drugs which comes to the average Nigerian at a very high cost.

Police take over investigation of Kaduna Air Force student’s murder case

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Audu Ali Dabigi, has directed the homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department, Kaduna State Police Command to conduct a thorough and high-powered investigation into the suspected murder of a 15-year-old student of Air Force Comprehensive School, Kaduna, Felix Blaise.

The police public relations officer of the Command, ASP Mansir Hassan disclosed this while speaking to journalists on Thursday, July 4.

According to him, the development was a result of the formal handing over of the case to the Command by the Air Force Police who conducted a preliminary investigation into the death of Felix Blaise, who until his unfortunate death was the Assistant Head of School.
