Funeral Rites For Late Nollywood Actor Begin In Enugu

The late Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, will be laid to rest on Friday, June 28, in his hometown of Amuri, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Videos circulating on social media on Friday reveal the arrival of his body as family, friends, and colleagues gather to bid him a final farewell.

A night of tribute was held in his honour on Wednesday, in Enugu State, with fellow actors Charles Anwurum and Victor Osuagwu, among those who paid their last respects.

PDP Tackles Abia Speaker Over Expulsion Of Journalist From Press Briefing

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abia State chapter, has berated the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, over the expulsion of a journalist from a press briefing at the Assembly complex in Umuahia.

A journalist, Kingsley Chibuike ,of Enyimba FM was expelled from a press briefing by the speaker over his station’s alleged continuous criticism of the speaker’s refusal to swear in the member elect for Aba North constituency as directed by the Court of Appeal on November 27,2023.

However, the PDP in a statement by its state Acting state publicity secretary, Elder Amah Abraham, said it has observed the recurring hostile disposition of the Speaker towards established institutions of democracy, especially the judiciary, and journalists, who are members of the fourth estate of the realm and the real watchdogs of democracy.


Customs Seize Cars, Rice, Cannabis Worth N1.12bn In Six States

The Nigeria Customs Service, Joint Border Patrol Team Sector 2, said it intercepted 1,410 litres of premium motor spirit worth N30.4m within one week.

The Coordinator of the team, Mohammad Shuaibu, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Customs Training College in Ikeja on Friday.

He said that the team intercepted these contraband within their area of jurisdiction adding that some were intercepted at the creeks.


Supreme Court Affirms Conviction Of Ex-Bank PHB MD Atuche

After about 13 years of trial, the Supreme Court, on Friday morning upheld the conviction of the former Managing Director of the defunct Bank PHB Plc, Mr Francis Atuche.

In the unanimous judgment read by Justice Moore Adumein, the Supreme Court held that the appellant, Francis Atuche, did not attempt to dislodge the finding of the trial court and the Court of Appeal on his credibility.

The court in relying on its previous decisions to the effect that where the decision of a trial court on the demeanor of a party or witness is supported by the documentary evidence tendered, an appellate court has no business in tampering with the decision of the court.
