Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, recently spoke out about his law firm's successful efforts to prevent the wrongful execution of 70 soldiers convicted of mutiny and sentenced to death by two court martial in 2014

In a recent report by Vanguard, Falana, in a letter, stated that the soldiers were wrongly accused of mutiny for demanding adequate weapons for counter-insurgency operations in the North East. He said his firm also defended two Generals as well as other officers and exposed a scheme to cover up corruption among senior military officers who had embezzled funds meant for purchasing arms and ammunition

In Falana's words: "Our law firm successfully frustrated the plan of the neocolonial Nigerian State to waste the lives of 70 soldiers who were convicted and sentenced to death for mutiny by two courts-martial in 2014. As they did not commit mutiny by demanding adequate weapons to enable them to carry out the counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast zone, we decided to defend majority of them".
