Sonnie Moniedafe, an APC member who aspired to be the national chairman of the party has disclosed why Tinubu was called "the last man standing" during former President Olusegun Obasanjo's tenure.

In an interview shared on YouTube by Channels TV, Moniedafe revealed that he began to work with Tinubu in 2006 when he was Governor of Lagos State under the Alliance for Democracy (AD) party. He said Obasanjo weakened AD, causing it to lose five out of six state governors it had (during the 2003 election). He said Tinubu resisted Obasanjo's tricks and managed to remain as the only governor in AD which led to him being referred to as "the last man standing"

Moniedafe also emphasized his commitment to progressive politics and his involvement in various roles within the APC

In his words: "We used to call Tinubu last man standing because he resisted all tricks of Obasanjo and remained. We merged to form APC. I mean well, I have been in the progressives since I came back to politics in 2006. I was chairman of ACN, I was in the campaign of Buhari in 2015 and 2019. I aspired or National Chairman and I gave my 5-point agenda"
