"The Biafra War wasn't our fault, but the propaganda is that the Igbos cannot be trusted" - Wabara

Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has once again reiterated his bold claim that he rejected a N250 million bribe to support the divisive third-term plan under the leadership of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. In a recent interview with "Untold Stories with Adesuwa" on YouTube, Wabara stood firm by his earlier statement, asserting that the bribery attempt was indeed true.

When pressed by the interviewer, Wabara maintained his position, recalling the tumultuous political climate of the time. "I didn't believe it when they said they were distributing N50 million per Senator," he said, highlighting his skepticism about the alleged bribes.

The former Senate President also clarified the circumstances surrounding his resignation from office, emphatically stating that he stepped down voluntarily and was not pressured to do so. "I resigned, I wasn't removed," he emphasized, dispelling any insinuations of external pressure.

Wabara's remarks were laced with a sense of urgency and conviction, as he underscored the importance of preserving Nigeria's democratic process. "Without people like us, there wouldn't be democracy now," he said. "If we had supported the third term, we would have had dictatorship, tyranny, and people like Buhari wouldn't have emerged. Even Tinubu wouldn't have emerged because Obasanjo would have still been there."

Wabara's comments also touched on the lingering consequences of Nigeria's troubled past, particularly the Biafra War. "We haven't been forgiven for what we didn't cause," he said, alluding to the lingering distrust and propaganda against the Igbo people. "It wasn't our fault, but the propaganda is that Igbos cannot be trusted."
