Tragedy Struck As Student Dies During Prank, Police Promise To Punish Offenders

Pranks are meant to be lighthearted and fun, but they can sometimes go too far. While pranks are often used to add humor and excitement to a situation, they can also be harmful and mean-spirited. Recently, some skit makers and pranksters have taken things too far, causing harm and even death.


In one tragic incident, a fresh graduate of the Department of Quantity Surveying, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, named Ifunanya Miracle was reported to have lost her life while escaping from a prank robbery at her university in Anambra State. Her friend, who was also present, sustained injuries. This is not the first time a prank has gone the wrong way, resulting in harm and destruction.

Cases of unwarranted pranks seemed to be the norm these days. In another instance, traders were pranked with rubber snakes, causing them to flee in panic and destroy their goods. In another case, undertakers were pranked with a fake resurrection, leading to a frightening confrontation.


According to Vanguard Online News, police sources have warned that any prank that results in death or harm is considered an offense and will be prosecuted. The police are cracking down on pranksters who use their platforms to commit harmful pranks, and skit makers are being warned to consider the effects and aftermath of their actions.

The police are urging pranksters to think before they act, considering the potential consequences of their pranks. Harmful pranks can have serious legal and emotional effects on the victims, and It is important to always prioritize safety and respect for others. The authorities are calling for responsible behavior and sensitivity towards others, especially in the name of entertainment.


According to a source of the Nigerian Police Force, any prank that takes a life will not be taken lightly, but, be considered as an offense. The Senior officer of the police force is quoted by Vanguard Newspaper as saying, “Prank is not a yardstick to terminate one’s life. Since the prankster was the cause of the incident that claimed her life, he will be charged to court for the offense committed."

“There is nothing like a mistake in law. Any skit maker or prankster that uses his platform to commit an offense shall face the consequences according to the offense committed. Sensitive jokes are not condoned." He said as reported by Vanguard Newspaper.
