Bristol City orchestrated a stunning 1-0 triumph over Leicester City at Ashton Gate, marking their first consecutive home Championship victories in 2024.

The encounter commenced with Bristol City dictating the tempo, as Jason Knight's early effort hinted at their intent. Although Haydon Roberts orchestrated a brilliant pass towards Tommy Conway, Leicester's vigilant goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, thwarted the attempt. Hermansen's heroics continued as he denied Conway and Scott Twine in quick succession, while a penalty appeal for a foul on Conway was waved away, much to Bristol City's dismay.

As the first half unfolded, Leicester gradually found their footing, with Wout Faes and Jamie Vardy coming close to breaking the deadlock. However, Leicester's inability to register a shot on target reflected their disjointed performance.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Leicester side, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall initiating an attacking surge, only to be thwarted by Bristol City's resilient goalkeeper, Max O'Leary. Despite O'Leary's early blunder, he redeemed himself with a series of remarkable saves, frustrating Vardy's endeavors.

Against the run of play, Bristol City seized the moment as Anis Mehmeti unleashed a spectacular left-footed strike from the edge of the box, shattering Leicester's hopes of extending their impressive scoring streak. Despite Leicester's relentless pursuit, Bristol City held firm, securing a memorable victory.

The defeat sees Leicester relinquishing the opportunity to ascend to the top spot, conceding the second position pending the outcome of Ipswich Town's clash with Blackburn Rovers later in the day.
