In a significant development on the notorious Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, the operations of a criminal gang have been brought to an end with the arrest of their leader, Tochukwu Nonso, also known as 'Thug Life'.

Tochukwu, in an exclusive interview with Vanguard, revealed the inner workings of his gang and his personal involvement in over 100 robberies on the bridge over the past two years. Operating mainly after 7 pm, when the police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) left the area, the gang targeted motorists whose vehicles broke down, using cutlasses to intimidate and rob them of their valuables, particularly phones and cash.

Reflecting on his background, Tochukwu disclosed that he had been introduced to criminal activities by acquaintances who initially concealed the true nature of their operations. Despite not using firearms, the gang's violent approach was evident in the injuries inflicted during their attacks.

Tochukwu, known as 'Thug Life', explained his role as the gang's leader, detailing how proceeds from their crimes were divided, with him taking the lion's share. His narrative highlighted a stark reality of criminality on Otedola Bridge, a place known for accidents and violent attacks.

The turning point came during a robbery attempt one night under the bridge when Tochukwu and his gang targeted a group of stranded individuals, including an undercover policewoman. The ensuing confrontation led to injuries but ultimately resulted in the gang's arrest while they were unwinding at a hotel.

Detailing his arrest, Tochukwu said, “While at the shrine, we called our buyer at the Computer village who came and gave us N30, 000.00. We later moved to Akute where we normally hide in hotels. We were enjoying ourselves in the hotel when policemen arrested us.”
