US election: I just can’t step aside – Joe Biden tells party men

President Joe Biden of the United States has told his Democratic Party lawmakers that he cannot step down from being candidate of the party for the presidential election due in November.

The President who has come under pressure to step down his candidacy after a number of gaffes in a televised debate with his Republican Party opponent Donald Trump, said Monday that now is not the time to talk about him stepping down.

There is talk already that should Biden choose to run no more, he could nominate Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him on the presidential ticket of the Democratic Party for the November 5 election.

AGF moves to take over MTN Nigeria CEO, others trial

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) has approached the Federal High Court Abuja, indicating interest in taking over the prosecution of the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, Karl Toriola, and others.

The suit, which was initially being prosecuted by the Nigerian Copyright Commission, has listed as defendants in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/111/2024, MTN Nigeria Communications Limited; Toriola, MTN Senior Executive Officer, Nkeakam Abhulimen; Fun Mobile Limited, a telecommunications service provider; and Yahaya Maibe, its CEO as first, second, third, fourth and fifth defendants respectively.

About 20 dead as Russia attacks Ukraine children’s hospital

No fewer than 20 people have been killed and more than 50 injured in waves of Russian missile attacks across Ukraine, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Monday.

Kiev was among the cities worst impacted with seven dead and at least nine injured, the city administration said.

Kryvyi Rih in southern Ukraine was also badly hit and at least 10 people there were killed and more than 30 injured.

Navy uncovers two illegal refining sites in Delta

The Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS, Delta has discovered two illegal refining sites with 45,000 litres of products suspected to be stolen crude oil in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.

Navy Commander Patrick Ali, the Base Operations Officer (BOO), representing Commodore Abba Muhsin, Commander, NNS Delta, on Monday led naval personnel to the sites in the coastal communities of Ajasolor and Ogbukoko.

Addressing newsmen, Ali said that five metallic storage tanks, four ovens and five dugout pits were uncovered, adding that a suspect was apprehended with a wooden boat.
