Death Toll Rises To 326 In Ground Operation As IDF Announces A Major Killed In Battle At Rafah

According to Times of Israel, on Sunday, the military declared that an IDF officer had lost his life in combat in Rafah, southern Gaza bringing the death toll to 326.

Maj. Jalaa Ibrahem, 25, a company commander in the 601st Battalion of the Combat Engineering Corps from the Druze town of Sajur, was killed in fierce combat even as Israeli officials indicated that the military operation in the southernmost city of the Gaza Strip was coming to an end.

Additionally on Sunday, during a shootout with militants in the Tel Sultan neighbourhood of Rafah, Lt. Col. Daniel Ella, the commander of the 52nd Battalion of the 401st Armoured Brigade, was moderately wounded, according to the military.

The army also said that his family was informed and that he was brought to a hospital in Israel.

Palestinians in a number of other nearby neighbourhoods were urged to leave and seek refuge in the western portion of the city, close to the coast, by the Israeli military as part of an ongoing operation in Gaza City's Shejaiya neighbourhood.

The zones comprised Gaza City's Tuffah, Daraj, and Old City neighbourhoods, as per a list released by the IDF's Arabic-speaking spokesman, Col. Avichay Adraee.

According to the IDF, fighter jets attacked a facility housing terror group operatives in a Gaza City school on Sunday.

It further said that an additional location within the school that Hamas used to produce weapons was also targeted.

The IDF said that, in addition to employing aerial surveillance and other intelligence, it had taken "many steps" to minimise harm to people before to launching the operation.

The military continued, "Hamas is a terror organisation that consistently breaks international law by using civilian buildings and civilians as human shields for terror activity against the State of Israel."

According to Hamas's civil defence organisation, Ihab al-Ghussein, the deputy head of the labour ministry administered by Hamas, was killed during the strike.

In its announcement, the military did not corroborate Ghussein's demise.

According to the IDF, 98th Division soldiers in Shejaiya have found weapons, destroyed terror group locations, and killed multiple gunmen in the last 24 hours.

A terrorist who fired a rocket from a nearby neighbourhood in the Israeli border town of Nahal Oz on Saturday was also slain, according to the IDF.

The attack was executed shortly after the rocket barrage.
