Manchester United are on the verge of securing two key signings this summer, with the acquisition of a new midfielder becoming a top priority for manager Erik ten Hag, according to UnitedinFocus.

Recent reports indicate that United are close to finalizing a deal for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

The club are prepared to meet Zirkzee’s £34 million release clause, with the transfer reportedly just a step away, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Zirkzee is currently participating in Euro 2024, alongside fellow Dutch player Matthijs de Ligt, who is also a potential target for United.

Speculation suggests that United are increasingly confident about signing De Ligt from Bayern Munich. The defender is eager to reunite with his former Ajax coach, Ten Hag, and could potentially form a defensive partnership with Lisandro Martinez at Old Trafford.

While these two signings appear imminent, United is also keen on bolstering their midfield. The club are in search of a defensive midfielder who can eventually succeed Casemiro.

Uruguayan international Manuel Ugarte has emerged as the prime candidate for this role.

Despite joining Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) only last year for around £51 million, PSG manager Luis Enrique seems willing to part ways with the 23-year-old.

Reporter Christopher Michel claims that United is actively pursuing Ugarte, aiming to negotiate a deal around €42 million (£35 million), though PSG are seeking approximately €60 million (£51 million).

Michel suggests that both clubs might settle for a fee around £43 million, which aligns with the rumored price for De Ligt.

However, United faces competition from Barcelona and Manchester City, as reported by Le10 Sport. City might consider Ugarte to provide competition for Rodri, especially after the underwhelming impact of Kalvin Phillips.
