According to Channels Television, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ignited political controversy by threatening to annul the existence of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, alleging their failure to align with his administration's agenda. Governor Fubara's remarks, made during a meeting with political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State, underscored his frustration with the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Addressing the delegation led by former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator Henry Siriake Dickson, Governor Fubara expressed disillusionment with the behavior of the assembly members, questioning their legitimacy and accusing them of lacking existence beyond his recognition. He emphasized his role in facilitating a peace accord to grant the assembly members a reprieve, but lamented their failure to reciprocate his efforts.

Governor Fubara's declaration of authority over the assembly members has heightened tensions within the political landscape of Rivers State. His assertion of control over their legitimacy and functioning has raised concerns about democratic principles and the separation of powers.

Moreover, Governor Fubara's criticism of his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, and allegations of sabotage by some commissioners further exacerbate the volatile political atmosphere in the state.

In response, Senator Dickson urged unity and collaboration between Governor Fubara and his predecessors to navigate the challenges facing Rivers State. He emphasized the importance of preserving the historic and cultural ties between Rivers and Bayelsa states for mutual benefit and regional stability.
