Ex-Senate President Adolphus Wabara Gives Reason for Igbo’s Political Struggle After Civil War

According to Punch, a former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, has spoken about the continued struggles of the Igbo in the Nigerian political space since the end of the Civil War. 

The former lawmaker, who spoke about the situation during in a YouTube interview series, Untold Stories, with Adesuwa, released on Monday, said the Igbo have not been forgiving for the Nigerian Civil War, which he said they didn’t cause, maintaining that there is a propaganda that the Igbo cannot be trusted since after that war. 

He said in his words:

“We have not been forgiven for what we did not cause, the Biafra War. It wasn’t our fault, but the propaganda is that the Igbos cannot be trusted.”

The former Senate President also spoke on number of other national issues, including his role in stopping former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term agenda. 

Speaking about this, he said he turned down a N250 million bribe offered to him to support the agenda, noting that if people like him did not stand up against it, there wouldn’t be democracy in the today. 

He said:

“Yes, if we had supported the third term, you know, I mean we would have had dictatorship, tyranny, and people like Buhari wouldn’t have emerged. Even the present Tinubu would not have emerged because Obasanjo would have still been there.”

Asked to confirm the veracity of the third term agenda and the allegations of bribery that attended it, Wabara firmly stated, “That’s very correct.”
