2022 Presidential aspirant Jimmy Wanjigi has warned President William Ruto against paying odious debts, saying that it is a road to self destruction.
Speaking to Spice FM as reported by Channel 7 News, Mr Wanjigi said that the result of paying illegal debts, which he approximated to be around 70% of the country's total debt is defaulting.
He added that once a government defaults paying its debts, the result is that the sitting President and the entire government is removed from power, warning that this is what is likely to happen to President William Ruto and his government.
"If this government continue to pay debt that is not legal, we are going to default. They have chosen this path of destruction and that destruction means we are also going to be destroyed. Presidents and government that default are being removed from power." He said
Wanjigi added that the only President who survived after defaulting on debt is the outgoing Ghanaian president, who pleaded to be left with two years remaining on his tenure. He claimed that the President wanted to retire with some honour.
