Don't Blame Ruto, Raila Or Uhuru As US Congress Leader Reveals Who Is Causing Chaos In Kenya

U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has accused the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the slew of taxes imposed on Kenyans in the contentious 2024 Finance Bill, which is opposed by residents, particularly Generation Z.

"It is critical to recognise that the IMF's rigorous financial conditions have contributed to the harsh economic conditions that the Kenyan people face. These actions frequently have a severe impact on the impoverished and can lead to public protests against the government," according to a statement made on Congresswoman Omar's social media account on X.

Similarly, the Representative from Minnesota's 5th District chastised the administration for the deaths of demonstrators and the devastation caused by Kenyans opposing the unjust tax policy.

"Reports of excessive police force and the use of live bullets targeting journalists and kidnapping protesters are distressing and must be addressed," says Ms. Omar.

"The Kenyan government must disclose the whereabouts and conditions of protesters who have been arrested or disappeared."

The Congresswoman also asked the government to listen to Kenyans' issues through constructive discussion.

Kenyans taking part in the ongoing protests are advised to remain peaceful, while the government is reminded to respect their constitutional rights as they criticise the administration in this manner.
