A member of the House of Representatives, Ikenga Ugochinyere, who represents the Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency of Imo State, publicly accused Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State. Ugochinyere alleged that the FCT Minister was attempting to interfere in the governance of Rivers State, specifically under Governor Siminalayi Fubara, amidst the state's current political turmoil.

During an interview on TV Continental (TVC), Ugochinyere acknowledged that Wike played a significant role in Fubara's rise to the governorship. He pointed out that Wike had claimed he wasn't driven by personal gain in backing Fubara. However, Ugochinyere argued that Wike is now attempting to oust Fubara prematurely, rather than waiting for the next election cycle.

He pointed out that he dislikes it when people in political discussions refuse to acknowledge reality and instead state things inaccurately.

In his words, "This problem is very simple. The FCT Minister helped Fubara be elected governor. That is allowed in democracy, and he said that he was not doing it for anything personal. "But if it turns out that you did it for personal reasons for the purpose of hijacking power and continuing your third term in office, then that is illegal and not part of democracy. "They have a governor, and he has decided to run by his oath of office, and then you don’t like the way he’s running the government." "And then you want to remove him instead of waiting for the next election to produce a new candidate. That is the foundation of this fight.”
