Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja (COAS) has told the Nigerian Army’s troops they have the professional skills and capacity to tackle insecurity and defend the country’s territorial integrity.

In a statement signed by the acting assistant director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Atang Solomon, the army chief said Nigeria today boasts of an Army that is “globally reckoned with, victory-focused and understands the underlying spiritual component of fighting power.”

He ascribed the army’s operational successes to God, as conspicuously captured by its motto: “Victory is from God Alone.”

Okorocha’s House Collapses In Abuja

A five-storey building owned by the former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has collapsed along Ahmadu Bello Way in Abuja.

The building, according to the report, collapsed around 9:pm yesterday sending panic to the entire neighbourhood.

In a swift reaction, personnel of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command immediately cordoned off the entire area.

It was gathered that the collapsed building was under renovation.

Eyewitnesses said some persons might have been trapped in the building.

Lagos reacts as heavy rains flood city

The Lagos state government has called for calm, reassuring residents that the “flash flood” on Wednesday, July 3, will recede with time.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, attributed the flooding to the state’s topography and climate change.

He said: “The Agency and other key responders are on high alert in case of any emergency. We urge the good people of Lagos to remain calm and refrain from any non-essential travel due to the incidence of flash floods across the State. They are already beginning to dissipate.”

Shipowners call for protection of marine environment

The Nigeria Shipowners Association, NSA, has called for collective efforts of stakeholders in the maritime sector to protect the marine environment, saying, “The protection of our oceans will be determined by practices that are sustainable for generations to come.”

Speaking at the recently concluded World Seafarers Day celebration in Lagos, President of the group, Otunba Sola Adewumi, said that the invaluable contributions of seafarers to global trade, economic stability are the very fabric of our society.

Adewumi also said that seafarers are the unsung heroes of the maritime industry, navigating the world’s oceans to ensure the seamless movement of goods, fostering international commerce, and supporting economic growth.
