According to reports, Arsenal have lined up a replacement midfielder for Thomas Partey as the Ghana international looks set to leave Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Gunners are said to be ready to move on from the former Atletico Madrid midfielder whose year's at the club has been filled with injuries and inconsistencies.

Mikel Arteta's plan is to gradually build a very strong midfield core and he started that last season when he signed Declan Rice from West Ham. The England international improved the midfield to a great extent, but it still falls short of what the manager actually wants.

The Gunners have been linked with Bruno Guimaraes for a while now, but signing the Brazilian looks very difficult, hence the club's plan to bring in an alternative.

According to Liverpool Echo, Arsenal have asked about the availability of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as speculation around Thomas Partey's future intensifies.

The 22-year-old is just one potential replacement lined up for the man who joined the Gunners from Spain in 2020.

One could say that Partey's impending departure signals Arsenal's strong intent to continue strengthening in a bid to catch Manchester City ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

Onana has been very impressive for the Toffees during another difficult campaign on the Merseyside club amidst their financial fair play position and the point deductions they faced last season.

The Belgium international made 37 appearances for Everton in all competitions last season, scored twice and helped his side achieve a good defensive record, conceding just 51 times in 38 Premier League games.

Currently, Onana is with the Belgium national team in a bid to help his nation conquer Europe in the ongoing Euros in Germany.
