"I will Not Pay KSh 1,000" Government Angers Kenyans After Calls to Replace Lost ID at Ksh 1000

President William Samoei Ruto's administration has increased the service fee for replacing lost National Identity (ID) cards at all Huduma Centres from KSh 100 to KSh 1,000. Huduma Kenya urged citizens to apply for a replacement at nearby centres.

This announcement has sparked mixed reactions on social media. Many Kenyans criticized the government for the price hike. One man voiced his discontent, stating, "I will not pay KSh 1,000 to replace an ID."

On July 2, Huduma Kenya published a notice calling for all citizens with lost IDs to visit their nearest Huduma Centre for a replacement, costing KSh 1,000. The notice read, "Get your lost ID replaced at a Huduma Centre near you with only KSh 1,000."

Many Kenyans questioned why services that were once free or cheaper are now being charged. The increased fee has led to widespread criticism and debate online about the government's decision.
