The political landscape of Rivers State is ablaze with controversy following startling allegations made by Alhaji Asari Dokubo regarding financial discrepancies within the state administration. Dokubo, a prominent leader in the Kalabari Kingdom, has publicly criticized former Governor Nyesom Wike, accusing him of gross financial mismanagement amidst an ongoing rift with current Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a candid Facebook video that has since gone viral, Dokubo highlighted significant disparities in infrastructure spending.
He pointed out that while the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) budgets N99 million for constructing a 1-kilometer road in challenging terrains, Wike allegedly spends a staggering N4 billion for the same length of road within the developed city of Port Harcourt.
He said, "Wike will construct 1 kilometer of road for N4 billion. NDDC is awarding 1 kilometer of road for N99 million in the harshest environment ever, but Wike is awarding in Port Harcourt, a developed place, N4 billion for 1 kilometer of road."
Asari Dokubo added, "When this whole crisis started, I openly stated that I would not back anybody," Dokubo remarked, "but today I can categorically say I know what happened between Wike and Fubara."
He further questioned the transparency of Wike's administration, citing discrepancies between reported state revenues and declared expenditures.
According to Dokubo, Wike reportedly declared only half of the actual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Rivers State, suggesting a potential misappropriation of funds amounting to billions of naira.
"Nyesom Wike's IGR of Rivers State is between N23 and N27 billion, and Wike was declaring N12 billion. Where was the N13 or N15 billion going? Governor Fubara said they make between N23 to N27 billion every month. Where was this money going?"
