Human rights activist Austin Okai has shed light on the recent encounter between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

According to Okai, the situation unfolded dramatically when EFCC officials attempted to apprehend Bello at his residence.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV's Prime Time programme, Okai said that despite his departure from office, Bello still had in his possession approximately 17 personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) and around 20 armed policemen guarding.

Okai emphasised that this formidable security presence effectively thwarted the EFCC's efforts to arrest Bello.

He warned that any attempt to forcefully apprehend the former governor could have resulted in loss of life, given the extensive security measures in place.

Furthermore, Okai urged Bello to demonstrate leadership by voluntarily submitting himself to the EFCC's investigation.

He argued that, as a former public servant who had sworn an oath to uphold Nigeria's constitution, Bello should set an example by cooperating with lawful inquiries into allegations of financial misconduct.

Okai said, "Bello left as governor and was living with not less than 17 DSS and about 20 armed policemen guarding him.

"And you saw what happened in zone four when they came for him; you saw how he was prevented until the man he handed over came and took him away from there."
