The Lagos State government on Friday, June 14, 2024, demolished a structure built by the Odua People's Congress (OPC) on a canal in the Okota area of the state.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in the state, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, who announced the development on his X handle, said the structure was demolished by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI.

It was gathered that the officials of the state ministry, a few months ago, discovered that the group had erected the uncompleted structure on the canal at Zion Road, Okota.

The OPC structure said to have been built on the canal, as posted by the commissioner on Friday.

However, following a number of contravention notices given and the refusal of the OPC to remove the building, the operatives swooped on the building and demolished it on Friday. They were seen with various equipment at the building site.

The commissioner wrote: "During the enforcement operation earlier today, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps also removed an OPC permanent structure built on the canal at Zion Road in Okota."

The commissioner also added that 48 hours had been given to occupants of shanties built on the canal at Ago Bridge, Okota, to vacate the place, adding that failure to do so will be followed by full enforcement operations.

He wrote: "Forty eight hours' vacation notice was also given to occupants of shanties built on the canal at Ago Bridge, Okota which will be followed by a full enforcement operation."
