The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been criticized by G-60 lawmakers for their call to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with the lawmakers deeming it unlawful and akin to political chaos and legislative misconduct, according to Vanguard.

In response to the impeachment demand, Federal Legislators, voiced through spokesperson Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, released a statement condemning it as an effort by purported House of Assembly members to subvert the law.

Governor Fubara had earlier stated that the House of Assembly, under the leadership of the removed Speaker Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule, was not legally recognized.

In reaction, the APC instructed its Assembly members to begin impeachment processes against the Governor. Nevertheless, the G-60 legislators contend that the concerned members are no longer recognized as lawmakers since their seats have been declared vacant.

Ugochinyere emphasized that governance should adhere to constitutional principles and legality.

The statement partly reads, “The defected and sacked members don’t have the constitutional recognition to continue to perpetrate legislative rascality. They don’t have the recognition to serve an impeachment notice or change procurement laws. They changed procurement law because governor awarded contract and paid almost 20 to 40%, and the contractors have moved to site.

“They now want to move mobilization fee to 5% so that there won’t be development in that state. But that was the same law the immediate past administration and the one before them used. It’s only a fool that will implement that so-called amendment. I urge the Governor of Rivers State to commence prosecution against these clowns using the magistrate court, arraign them for impersonation to restore sanity. Arrest them, and this madness will end.”

The declaration criticized the behavior of the expelled legislators, alleging they prioritized personal interests over the welfare of the state. Ugochinyere urged Governor Fubara to pursue legal measures against the defected and ousted members, suggesting their prosecution for impersonation to uphold order and stability in the state.
