NDLEA Arrests 60 Suspects at Abuja Drug Party

The NDLEA arrested 60 people, including 25 males and 35 females, at a drug party in Abuja organized by Stanley Ikechukwu. Six suspects were caught with drugs. The NDLEA also intercepted 6,125 cartons of codeine worth N7.3 billion. Two passengers traveling to Doha were arrested at Lagos airport for ingesting drugs. In Edo State, four suspects were arrested for cannabis cultivation.

Nigeria’s Crypto Market Hits $400m

Nigeria's cryptocurrency market surpassed $400 million despite regulatory uncertainties, according to SEC Director General Emomotimi Agama. Between July 2022 and June 2023, crypto transaction volume reached $56.7 billion, with 33.4% of Nigerians involved. Challenges include regulatory uncertainty, security concerns, and low financial literacy. Recent scrutiny has led to the exit of Binance and the delisting of the naira from P2P platforms. The SEC has issued a 30-day re-registration deadline for all crypto firms under a new regulatory regime.

One dead, five injured in France wedding hall attack

In Thionville, northeastern France, masked gunmen opened fire at a wedding ceremony, killing one and injuring five. The attack, likely tied to drug trafficking disputes, happened at a reception hall with about 100 guests. Two victims were critically injured, and the assailants fled the scene in a 4x4 vehicle.

FCT CP orders clampdown on vehicles without plate numbers

FCT Police Commissioner Benneth Igweh has ordered a crackdown on vehicles with single or no plate numbers in Abuja. Defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted. Car dealers are also warned against unauthorized parking and driving after 6 PM. This measure aims to curb "one chance" robberies often linked to such vehicles.
