David Raya has penned an emotional farewell message to Brentford following his permanent transfer to Arsenal this summer. The Gunners have secured the Spain international for £27 million, after initially paying £3 million to bring him on loan from Brentford last season.
Raya, who took over as Arsenal’s number one goalkeeper last season, clinched the Premier League Golden Glove in his debut campaign, amassing 16 clean sheets in the league and 20 overall across 41 appearances.
His performances were instrumental in Arsenal’s runner-up finish in the Premier League and their journey to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Expressing his gratitude on Arsenal’s official website, Raya stated, “After a year on loan as a Gunner, I can finally say that I’m an Arsenal player for the coming years. I’m excited to see what the future holds but always living in and enjoying the present.
“It’s a dream come true to be here, and I want to thank you for all the support you have already given me throughout the last year.”
Raya, who is currently with Spain at Euro 2024, spent five years with Brentford after joining from Blackburn. He played a pivotal role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2023.
