A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has contrasted the leadership of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, with that of the Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State, asserting the latter’s administration as superior.

Obi served as the Anambra State Governor from June 2007 to March 2014.

“The Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos State has more achievements in governance than Peter Obi,” Omokri said in an interview on the ‘Mic On Podcast’ programme hosted by a Channels Television’s journalist, Seun Okinbaloye, late Saturday.

“I know for a fact that the Eti-Osa Local Government Chairman has built at least, to my knowledge, three schools,” Omokri affirmed.

The social media influencer also challenged the Obidients – adherents of Obi, to mention a school built by the latter in his eight years as governor of the Southeastern state.

He noted that while Obi was the Anambra State Governor, he didn’t start, complete and inaugurate a school.

Omokri said, “I am giving a challenge. I will give any (Obidient) $10,000 if they can name one school that Peter Obi started, completed and commissioned while he was governor,” debunking views that Obi was better than former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu in terms of infrastructural developments.

The minority leader of the Senate, Comrade Abba Moro has said that the retention of the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum by the party, should not be construed as victory or defeat for anybody.

According to Moro in a statement by his media aide, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, on Sunday, in Abuja, the unanimous decision to allow Damagum to preside over the National Working Committee (NEC) of the party, was made to allow the PDP to move forward.

According to the statement, Senator Moro’s reaction came in amid rumours being spread that Damagum’s survival despite calls for his removal was a victory for the former governor of River State and minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and a defeat for PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Senator Moro who represents Benue South Senatorial District said the actions and inactions of the PDP should not be attributed to Atiku and Wike.

He said the whole issue was not about victory or defeat for anybody but about the PDP being established to provide an alternative formidable platform for Nigerians.

He said: “We cannot translate the entirety of PDP’s activities and inactivities to Wike and Atiku, out of millions of other members of the party across the country who also have their own thinking and reasons for being in the party.

Senator Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila has sympathized with the families of the 11 persons who lost their lives in an auto crash along the Kano-Maiduguri Highway on Friday, April 19.

Sumaila in a statement in Abuja expressed grief over the demise of the 11 people, regretting that Kano-Maiduguri road has remained a death trap to many road users.

The over 550-kilometre dualization project was awarded by the federal government at the end of the second tenure of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Senator Sumaila explained that the importance of the road to Nigeria’s economy cannot be over-emphasized as the international highway links Nigeria with Chad Republic, Cameroon, Niger Republic, and the Central Africa Republic, thereby boosting businesses among the affected countries.

He also said that the road which also connects Kano with Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Borno states, is playing a great role in the economic activities of the states.

Sumaila, however, lamented that despite its importance, the road has claimed several lives due to the non-completion of the project.

He said for almost 17 years since the award of the project, a portion of the road particularly from Wudil to Gaya has not been completed.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has urged Nigeria’s 36 state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to account for the spending of Federal Account Allocation Committee allocations to states and the FCT since 2019.

It also asked them to provide and widely publish documents on the spending of FAAC allocations received by their states and the FCT since 1999.

The Federal Account Allocation Committee is responsible for reviewing and adopting the allocation of funds to states and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The requests followed reports that the committee disbursed N1.123 trillion to the federal, state, and local governments for March 2024 alone.

The breakdown showed states collected N398.689 billion.

SERAP’s request was contained in the Freedom of Information inquiry dated April 20, 2024, and signed by its Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

“Without this information, Nigerians cannot follow the actions of their states and the FCT, and they cannot properly fulfil their responsibilities as citizens.
