Development expert Jide Ojo expressed doubts about the Lagos-Calabar Highway project in an interview with Channels Television, raising issues with the project's budget and schedule.
Given the substantial financial outlay required, Ojo questioned why there was no competitive bidding for the N15 trillion project.
He brought up the fact that the Federal Ministry of Works' whole budget for 2024 is less than N1 trillion, casting doubt on the viability and need of dedicating so much money to a single highway project.
In his words, "When did it become the custom of the administration to have a N15 trillion project that is not subjected to any competitive bidding?"
"So, that in itself is making tongues wag as to what actually is the interest? Why is it that we have to spend this quantum of resources when the entire budget of the Federal Ministry of Works is not up to N1 trillion in 2024?"
"Now you're spending N15 trillion plus on this super high way connecting 7 states, and you are saying that it will take 8 years. Who says that Tinubu's administration will continue in 2027?"
