According to the report from the Sun, the national coordinator and executive director, Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre, Okey Nwanguma reflected on President Tinubu's campaign promises, focusing on two key points: Tinubu's assertion that it was his turn to lead and his intention to continue the policies of former President Buhari.

He suggested that Tinubu's emphasis on these points distracted from discussing a clear agenda or program for the country.

He stated that Tinubu's commitment to following Buhari's path has led to increased poverty and hardship for Nigerians.

He pointed out that Tinubu's first significant action in office was the removal of fuel subsidies without implementing any measures to mitigate the impact on citizens.

He criticized the government's approach of imposing additional taxes on various sectors without providing relief or support to those affected, which has further contributed to the country's challenges.

He said, "There were two things that President Tinubu was saying throughout his campaign period. He said it was his turn, so he didn’t really tell Nigerians what his programme or agenda was. He also said that he was going to continue where Buhari stopped. So, to continue where Buhari stopped is to take Nigerians deeper into poverty, into hardship, that is what we are seeing.

What we are witnessing is not strange because those who can see beyond the ordinary eye knew that things will be hard and they are not surprised. Look at the first thing he did was to remove fuel subsidy without any plan for anything to cushion the effect, nothing like palliative plan that should come with it. They are going from one sector to another sector taxing the people."
