Palestinian Islamic Jihad Claims Attack on Soldiers and Military Vehicles Near Rafah Cemetery

Palestinian Islamic Jihad's armed wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, reportedly told Al Jazeera that its militants had shelled a group of Israeli soldiers and military vehicles near the cemetery east of Rafah.

They also said that their fighters attacked military vehicles and people in the "Netzarim Corridor" to the south of Tal al-Hawa, west of Gaza City, in a separate incident. Israeli forces created the Netzarim Corridor during the conflict to divide northern and southern Gaza; the name comes from a Jewish community in Gaza that was demolished in 2005.

These strikes occur at the same time that the Israeli army has been on the offensive in the area for about two weeks.

Approximately sixty corpses of individuals slain in the attack were discovered yesterday by the Palestinian Civil Defence, after the army withdrew from parts of western Gaza City.

The strikes bring attention to the Palestinian terrorist organisations' and Israel's continuing battle in Gaza, which has caused many casualties and forced many to flee their homes.
