According to 90min, Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal have opened talks with Gabriel Magalhaes over a new and improved contract, according to reports.

The 26-year-old Gabriel has emerged as a standout performer alongside William Saliba in Arsenal's defensive line, playing a crucial role in the club's ongoing title challenge for the second consecutive season.

Currently topping the table ahead of rivals Manchester City, Arsenal's aspirations hinge on maintaining their position, although City can secure their fourth consecutive title if they win all remaining fixtures.

Liverpool remains in contention but suffered a setback in their bid for Jurgen Klopp's farewell Premier League title with a 2-0 defeat to Everton.

Gabriel's existing contract with Arsenal runs until 2027, but discussions are reportedly underway with his representatives regarding improved terms, as reported by the Evening Standard.

The Brazilian has amassed 46 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 season, solidifying his partnership with Saliba, who has enjoyed an equally impressive campaign, after initially missing out on selection in the season's early stages.

Since his arrival from Lille in September 2020 for £27 million, Gabriel has become an integral part of Mikel Arteta's squad, securing a new five-year contract two years later.

If he agrees to the proposed contract extension, Gabriel will join the likes of Saliba and Ben White, who recently signed new deals with Arsenal, further solidifying the club's defensive lineup.

White's decision to commit his future to Arsenal for another four years in March coincided with his impressive performances, prompting calls for his return to the England squad.

However, England manager Gareth Southgate revealed that White had opted out of consideration for selection prior to March's internationals. Despite this, White's contributions to Arsenal, including scoring twice in the recent 5-0 victory over Chelsea, his value to the team.
