In a recent interview with Arise TV, Cletus Obun, a key figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized the critical role of the party register in confirming membership. Obun, a founding member of the APC, clarified that merely swearing an affidavit in court or holding a press conference does not establish membership.
According to Obun, the party's constitution clearly states that a person's name must be on the register to be considered a legitimate member. He underscored that no court in Nigeria can declare someone a member of the APC, highlighting the party register as the only valid proof of membership.
He emphasized that the situation in Rivers State should have prompted the national assembly to take control of the House of Assembly there by now. He noted that the 27 individuals who made proclamations on television and at press conferences claiming to be members of the APC cannot have their membership declared by a court. As a founding member of the APC, he stressed that no court in Nigeria can make someone a member of a political party, particularly the APC. During an interview on Arise Television, He remarked, "What is happening in Rivers State would have, by now, I expect the national assembly would have taken over the House of Assembly in Rivers State. First of all, the 27 people who came and made proclamations on television and at press conferences saying that they're members of the APC I'm a foundation member of APC; joining APC cannot even be declared by a court. No court of law in Nigeria can make you a member of a political party, especially the APC, that I know of. I know the constitution well. For you to be a member, your name must be on the world 'register'', not by press conference or swearing an affidavit in court, which can make you a member of APC."
