What Happened

Before the start of the 2024 MLS season, Inter Miami feared that they would lose a couple of matches due to the unavoidable absence of Suarez and Messi. The two iconic figures were sure to represent their respective countries in the Copa America. Messi leads Argentina in the defense of their continental crown, while Suarez still forms part of Uruguay's squad.

Upon winning three consecutive matches in the absence of the two stars, Jordi Alba took to the media to wish Messi and Suarez a prolonged outing in the ongoing Copa America tournament. The former Barcelona player also netted a stunning strike in their last game against Nashville. Inter Miami has now won Philadelphia Union, Columbus Crew, and Nashville SC.

What Alba said

According to Goal, Jordi Alba said the team missed the two players a lot and that everyone in Miami is wishing them a good and prolonged outing with their respective countries' “We miss them a lot; for their international teams, they’re doing really well, and we hope they stay there for as long as possible, but for now, we’re doing well ourselves here, and we have to continue going with this form," he said.

What Next?

Inter Miami will be playing against Charlotte this coming Wednesday. Messi and Suarez would miss at least two more fixtures for Miami if their respective countries progressed to the Copa final. For the main time, Inter Miami still tops the MLS Eastern Conference with two points clear.
