According to report from The Nigerian Tribune. The Niger Delta Integrity and Justice (NDIJ) has declared that the South-South region will no longer settle for a secondary role in governance, aiming instead to produce the next President of Nigeria in 2027.

While the group acknowledges Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri's qualifications and closeness to Alh. Atiku Abubakar, they insist that their goal is to see the Niger Delta region complete its full eight-year term in the Presidency and will work against shortchanging the Niger Delta in 2027”. which was previously cut short when Goodluck Jonathan was ousted.

NDIJ Secretary George Miriki emphasized that the group will work tirelessly to ensure a Niger Delta candidate emerges as President in 2027, building on the momentum from the previous election where Jonathan nearly secured the APC presidential ticket. The group's determination signals a shift in the region's political aspirations, seeking to move beyond merely vying for the vice presidency.
