£65m-rated Bayern Defender Interested in Manchester United Move

Bayern Munich's top-rated defender Matthijs de Ligt is reportedly interested in joining Premier League team Manchester United this summer, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Following the appointment of new head coach Vincent Kompany, the Bundesliga giants are considering some adjustments to their squad, including at the centre-back position. Bayern Munich already boasts a solid defensive lineup with players like Min-jae Kim and Dayot Upamecano. Matthijs de Ligt, however, appears to be the most valuable centre-back on the transfer market, with a potential fee of £65 million. Trading him could provide Bayern with sufficient funds for potential summer signings.

Sources from England suggest that the Dutch defender has given Manchester United the green light after direct contact with his camp. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue, as de Ligt's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is exclusively negotiating with Manchester United, indicating the player's priority.

The next step is for Manchester United and Bayern Munich to discuss the deal's structure. Erik ten Hag, who will continue as Manchester United's manager, aims to address the defensive issues that plagued his team last season, leading to an eighth-place finish due to numerous injuries. Signing Matthijs de Ligt would significantly bolster the team's defensive options.
